USC Trojan Football was once the meca for all things running the football. Powerful backs, Agile backs and multi-talented backs who could catch as well as run the rock. USC was teased this year with Woody Marks. He shows up every game. He pounds when asked to go between the tackles and if daylight exists he has that gear to separate from the LB's chasing him to the endzone.
But unfortunately, this staff has continued to go big. They can't help themselves and try to force the ball down the field in heavy coverage. Yesterday against Nebraska wtih a change in the QB role with Jayden Maiava we saw the 50/50 ball on several occasions. Shades of Sam Darnold days when Sam would thread that 20+ throw between 2-3 defenders withi great success but also occasional oh shit not again and ironically Jayden is wearing Sam's old #14. Don't get me wrong, Jayden settled down as you would hope and more importantly he has film now of himself and so do the coaches. This week in prep for UCLA he has time to lean in to what we all saw.
Lincoln Riley needs to up the feeds to his RB Room. They are capable and producing. In fact, he would lead the nation if he had unleashed this room and called their normals with ore frequency. We are blessed to have a deep room. Don't waste it LR.
Feed Woody. Get QJ more snaps. Let the defense move up to defend and then let Jayden unleash those amazing long balls he is very capable of throwing.
